Rolling Through Vista Del Camino - Moving Day at The Memorial

Vista Del Camino was host to round three of The Memorial Championship in Scottsdale, Arizona. After the conclusion of Thursday’s action, a scoring error discovered by members of the media led to an investigation by the PDGA. Ricky Wysocki was subsequently issued a two stroke penalty for his three separate scoring discrepancies at the Fiesta Lakes Golf Course in Mesa. These critical errors seemed to swing Rick’s momentum onto his card mates Simon Lizotte and Paul McBeth, two of the players seeing the most success on moving day. Simon carded a 50 and Paul threw just 49 shots on the par 60 course.

In bogey-free fashion to tie McBeth’s hot round was none other than Nate Sexton, who made his way onto the lead card for today’s final round at Fountain Hills. Eagle McMahon also shot hot yesterday, birding more than half of the holes at Vista, however with a bogey on hole 10 and a triple bogey on hole 8, he was only able to manage a 54. This leaves him in a tie for seventh place with Dave Feldberg, six strokes behind McBeth and Lizotte, who are tied for first. Ricky Wysocki had an uncharacteristic round missing 15% of his inside the circle putts and he had the highest OB rate out of the top three cards. This pushes him back into a tie for third with Nate Sexton, three strokes behind the co-leaders.

A surprisingly small gallery found the muggy Vista Del Camino track yesterday, the longest of the three courses used in this year’s Memorial Championship. But it’s thanks to Vista’s length that we got to see some of the biggest throws this week as well as many players making excellent use of backhand rollers across the courses’ long open fairways. There were some adjustments to the course from years past, with the addition of new mandatories as well as the upgraded Disc Golf Pro Tour Baskets.

The pros seemed to hit their stride at Vista, the sixth course they’ve played in eight days. With just two days off after The Gentlemen's Club Challenge in Las Vegas last week, these last few days are shaping up to be quite the endurance test. All that’s left is one more round at Fountain Hills, where we have had numerous historical finishes in years past. Will this year bring the drama we’ve come to expect from The Memorial final round? We can’t wait to find out.
