2018 DUDE Pro - Mundaring, Western Australia - ADG A Tier

How do you know the offseason is over in Australia? For most, it’s when the first big event of the year rolls into town, and this year the DUDE Pro is taking place once again at Mundaring DiscGolfPark. Held on a bi-annual basis, the DUDE Pro alternates years with the Aussie Open, and ensures that those local to Perth have an incredible event to start their season off right!

The Basics

This year’s event is hosted by the Mundaring Sporting Club and is supported by The Frisbee Shop and DiscGolfPark. With a bit of a change from 2016’s tournament, it’s registered with Australian Disc Golf as an A-tier event, and a PDGA C-tier.

This two-day tournament will test players with rounds in both the long and short positions during some of the hottest weather of the year. Despite being a somewhat wooded course at times, Mundaring boasts enough wide open spaces to allow the sun to test the resolve of players.

A $75 entry fee buys you a spot to compete and also offers those in the amateur divisions a DUDE players pack that’s valued at over $50. January 20th will find players competing on 18 holes set to the long position, totaling nearly 10,000 ft. The second round of the day will be a bit easier, as pins will be moved to a much shorter position, around half the length of the morning’s layout. Sunday finds Mundaring once again back to its grueling long layout and will cap off the event with a final 9.

About Mundaring

It seems fitting that Australia’s first disc golf complex should host the DUDE Pro, as the course was designed by none other than the head DUDE himself, Chris Finn. The terrain at Mundaring is rather hilly with a nice mix of open fairways and more technical wooded holes. Established in 2014, it’s been the home to many notable events, including the Aussie Open.

Players will tee off from artificial turf pads, offering them a safe and even stretch of ground to fire off shots on the course’s long holes. DISCatcher Pro baskets throughout the course ensure putts won’t spit out, making the competition solely about your own skill as a disc golfer.

Like so many courses we’ve begun to see throughout the world, the Mundaring disc golf course is actually located on a ball golf complex. The Mundaring Sporting Club offers a reprieve from the Australian summer sun complete with a clubhouse and amenities for players to enjoy a little rest and relaxation.

Past Performances

The competition was fierce during the 2016 DUDE Pro,  as local players across 8 divisions competed for bragging rights. In the men’s open field, the first and second place was decided by a margin of only two strokes, while in other divisions the first place winner had a hot streak from start to finish.

We’re excited to see what happens during this year’s DUDE Pro and can’t wait to kick off the 2018 season with a bang!
